Is this subsidence?

I bought a house only five months ago. It’s a Victorian stone terrace circa 1900. The house has been recently renovated but I have notice a small crack in the plaster in the kitchen running along the wall right in the corner (where the wall meets the ceiling). Could this just be the result of a bad plastering job or could it be subsidence?

We had a survey and check, etc done only in July 2007 – is there was any history of subsidence or currently any signs of it would the survey pick up on it?

whats subsidence ? the crack is the result of the house settling or the plaster dryed to fast,

Barring any major construction or sinkholes nearby I’d say your 100+ home finished settling long ago. That crack is from poor plastering.
A survey just lays out your lot lines. You could go to your county office (or equivalent) to see what work was done on your house or nearby before you moved in. Of course your neighbors would be a good source also.

Well, difficult to say without seeing it but ‘bad’ plastering is unlikely. More likely that the house is simply moving around as they all do.

Summer/winter temperature differences cause slight shifts in houses as does having the central heating on all through the winter. The ground underneath us all is is hurtling around all the time, tiny movements are inevitable, especially any house without a concrete foundation to ’smooth out the ride’

Get the crack scraped out, filled and painted and then wait and see if it s recurring.

And don’t worry, your house is not falling down around your ears lol!
