Natural Building How-To: Making Earthen Plaster (PART 1)

Lately, there’s been a lot of building work going on around Dancing Rabbit.

So for this episode of Dancing Rabbit TV, we’re taking the opportunity to provide a “how-to” natural building lesson, an in-depth video about earthen plastering techniques and application. Tamar guides us through every step of the way, showing how easy it is to make natural plaster from just a few simple ingredients, and both making and mixing the plaster, and then applying it to a natural home wall.

    Answer1: That was …
Answer1: That was wheat paste. You can make it by mixing flour and water over heat, then after it thickens, mix in more water off heat. Answer2: Probably pretty hard. You don’t want a mushy house.Answer3: Maybe, maybe not. Answer4: Umm…. not sure. You could probably make it come out from deep in the straw, then cover the inner walls w adobe, and then cover the shelf with it too. ;)

What was the white thing she purred in? Are the walls in straw bale house a little soft or is like sheet rock type of hardness. If I punch the wall will it crack? Can you mount the shelf into a straw or you make them like you would make it in the cob house?

    To those who are …
To those who are grossed out by the cow poo… it’s natural and only “stinks bad” when it’s very fresh. Even if it stinks when making the plaster, after a few days to a week there will be NO smell. If you are grossed out by cow poo, you don’t know much about many things in life. Life is full of “gross things” lol

    Didn’t the Pharaoh …
    Didn’t the Pharaoh proclaim,

“Let them make bricks without straw!”

    I don’t think he said,

“Let them make bricks without cow poopie!”

(Otherwise there’d be dancing in the streets!)

not a bad home idea for going green but i plan on a log home. not sure what to use for a roof though. i don’t want to dig in the earth at all no clay no displacing sand from it’s natural environment at all. i believe that were suppost to use plants and animals only not tear into the earth in anyway shape or form

Well it was hard work to sink to your level, but modesty apart I think I did pretty well, at least I was having a laugh.
