How to Plaster a Wall

Learn how to skim – the basic diy skills needed for skimming a wall. 2 coats of finish plaster are applied and ‘trowelled’ to give a flat, smooth finish. This finish coat is just one aspect of plastering – if the plaster backing coat is flat, the finish coat of skim is fairly straightforward. This video is a very quick guide to the art of plastering.

    you’re over …
    you’re over complicating it show people the procedure of skimming a wall, you’re showing the second coat going on when you haven’t even finished the first coat, you are confusing for beginners

    @kellyfortune It is not to difficult to skim, about 2 weeks of practice will enable you to reach this kind of finish i would expect, its all about speed when you’re trying to earn money in plastering.
    Able skills and golden trowel have two week courses, but im not realy sure how good they are to be honest.

    @virus1972 In England most plasterers use ‘Thistle Multi finish’ for this kind of job, and it is brown or slightly pink like in the video depending on how much water you put in it.
    But when it dries it goes grey

    I really wanna learn this. It ‘looks’ really easy, although im sure that it isn’t. It also looks kind of theraputic, but then im strange like that. Platerers also get paid quite well, especially here in the UK. Any courses/general advice from anyone in teh know? Am i too old at 28 to look at learning this as a potential career?

    Pretty much every house is plastered – a lot of Gib used internally , building is a bit slow at the moment, but that’s sure to pick up

    @virus1972 You must be from Australia then. Because when I was there there used white coat. All the plaster in uk and Ireland is this colour.

    Apparently their plaster in the uk is brownish which looks a bit odd for most of us…But then, the brits always have to do differently…that is why we like them.

    the color of your plaster in this video looks light pink .. is that an additive, or just a normal all purpose you buy?. Plaster here is bleach white

    ha a would love to see the finished result of that im suprised u yanks know how to do this skill anymore all u lot do is dry line every thing, i bet u dont know what a ‘’scratched backing coat is” or sand and cement render
