How to get dried plaster out of floorboards?
I recently had ‘workmen’ in to do some re-plastering. They managed to tread plaster into my stripped floorboards, and to splash it on to stripped skirtings. (All sealed with matt varnish). Of course it has found it’s way into all the grooves, old worm holes etc. Short of stripping the floors, is there any way to remove it? Water just seems to spread it and when it dries it comes back. Thanks in anticipation!
Hi
I had the same prob, Agree with below, but also try white vinegar diluted in a little warm water. Use a cotton bud to get into the grooves also neat white spirit and it wont harm yr floor.

Yeah washing will get rid of it eventually if they’re sealed like you say.
Just persevere and keep using clean water & mop.

I agree with the last post that you will eventually get it out with water and enough work. Don’t soak the area like you would wet mop a floor, just work with a little water and try to work in small areas at a time rather than wiping over a large area and maybe spreading things to areas where there wasn’t a problem before. I had a similar problem and had to use a stiff toothbrush in the grooves and maybe even a needle in the really fine ones. Just be careful not to scratch off the varnish. (unless you could touch that up without having to strip and redo everything.)
Good luck, It’s a lot of work!
