plastering solutions do i need pva glue and browning?

I have had the boiler removed from my kitchen and the ventilation bricked up which needs to now be plastered (patched up), this is breeze block and a few bricks. Probably a really small job just wondered if i will need to apply PVA glue and then browning before the the plaster, or can I apply the plaster direct on to the brick without any browning? the gap fill is 3mm to 5mm deep, thanks to you all in advace

no ..you will need a basecoat …by all means pva it …then either use browning or bonding coat ..finish of with multi -finish….if you try to do it without the base coat it will just become a thousand cracks and fall out

Does "painters sand" do a good job hiding plaster inperfections?

I have old plaster ceilings and walls and I want to hide imperfections. I fill and sand, etc.. and when house settles, more cracks appear.

it does work.

how much do i charge for plastering per m2?

whats the going rate 4 supply and fit board & skim per m2
& the rate 4 fit only board and skim per m2. have been sent a questioner to do some subbie work but they aske me what i would charge . but i always charge per job the work they have is from small patching 2 large rooms 2 full houses but be4 they give the go ahead they always ask how much do u charge per m2 . THANKS MUCO MUCO

I assume you’ve always charged a day rate for labour plus material cost + a percentage. Probably the easiest way to get round this would be to ask to price a full house for the client. That way you can price the job the way you have been doing, ie say two men 3 days, plus Xm2 of 9mm plasterboard, plus X bags of board finish. Then work out the total, divide it by the total m2 of board used, and that will give you a composite rate for labour & materials.

They should be aware that you will need to charge a day rate for small jobs, as it simply won’t be worth you while to do say a 3m2 wall once you take into consideration travel to site etc. Also, your rates for dot & dab will be different to fixing with drywall screws, and your rates for boarding a ceiling likewise. You need to know if they want 9mm boards or 12mm, if they want insulation board etc….there are too many variables to just say you charge X pounds per m2. You need more info from them or they might be in a position to sting you.

where can i find genuine home working jobs?

i’m due to go for a not so nice operation at the end of september, i’m having a realignment of my foot (pins fitted, broken, plaster cast) great huh? problems is, i’ve been told the recovery time will be 5-6 months. i really cant see myself sitting around doing nothing for that time so i’ve been looking for home working jobs, do they exist? all i can find is companies that want money off me. any information would be so much appreciated, thank you xxx

You could approach friends etc to see if they need any typing, telephoning, anything done from you and negotiate a wage – at least you can trust them. If you need to exercise your foot whilst recovering you could set up a small dog walking round. Be ambitious – start something up for yourself, home baking etc, who knows it may be the start of something big which would make this operation a positive step – and motivate your future. Good luck with whatever you do.

how much do people charge to do venetian plastering?

I have done it based on the job size/ time- but never on sq footage. I would like to know what to charge for sq footage.
I would say it is $10 per square foot, changes in the areas on the country, and the size of the project. good luck

how do i find out about getting plastering jobs in calpe, in spain?

i need to move to spain next year and i can not find anyone who knows where to look! ive tried all the websites i know. Please help

Totally agree with carol p (above). Me and my hubby moved to Spain. He is a builder. He has found it difficult to get work, although his daily rates are cheap (half the price of the U.K.) and he is a professional. He has only just managed to get ongoing work, mainly because people have recommended him. We actually live in Javea which is not very far away from Calpe. If you need to work, then I would seriously consider all of your options. It is not easy, but saying that, the lifestyle is fantastic and we would not return to the U.K. from choice.
